Jesus is the Light of the World!

Hello! My name is Rick Hamrick. I am the pastor of Polkville Baptist Church and I am glad you have found your way to this page. I want to take a few moments to share with you some good news from God’s Word.
Throughout The Bible, “darkness” is used to refer to evil things that go against God’s plan for His creation; “light” is used to refer to the good things that please God.

It is no secret that there is plenty of “darkness” in this day and time. It has been said in fun, “If there was no bad news there would be no news at all!” But that is becoming more and more true. There is a lot of darkness — evil, bad, sinful stuff — all around us.

But thousands of years ago a prophet by the name of Isaiah was given a message to proclaim about those walking in darkness. It seems that darkness has always been a problem. Here’s just a few words from that prophecy!

Isaiah 9:2
The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light; on those living in the land
of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

Did you get the fact that God is saying to us that even though there is all this darkness, there WILL BE a great light. In other words there would be one to come who would shine light into the darkness. Several hundred years later that light did come into the world. Jesus, God’s own Son, was born into darkness to bring light — goodness — into the world. Jesus himself spoke of this:

John 8:12

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

We at Polkville Baptist Church proclaim to you that the Light of the World, Jesus, has come and you don’t have to live in darkness any longer. Join with us on Sundays as we learn more about living in the Light. You can find information on this web-site about times and places of all sorts of opportunities to learn about Jesus.  If you would like more information feel free to e-mail me directly: rick@polkvillebaptist.com.

Thank you for spending a couple minutes with me. I hope you have a Light-filled day!
